Here is a picture of my sons first catch this year. Caught off of a nightcrawler this evening in our pond. We are going to try and keep track of how many he catches this year, I am sure he caught over 30 fish last year.

The other pic is my first catch, quite a big one isn't it :smile2: BTW it appears to be a little catfish why is it so yellow?? We catch several of these from time to time and they are always small. Is it not a catfish??

Congrats to your boy for his first of the season, good job.
That would be a Bullheads natural color. You've got some good bait going for you there.
Where did you say that pond is??:smile2:

I thought it may of been a bullhead, rats I should have saved it, we have a small creek running through the back edge of our property, there may be some big ones in there. Oh well I will catch several more of them I am sure.

It appears to be a yellow bullhead, sort of a small cousin to the channel
cat. They taste good and are the traditional first fish of young fellas.
Your boy has a good start as a fisherman. Oh, by the way if you want
a really big flathead that bullhead is one of the best baits you can get.
Flatheads hate them because they are egg stealers when flats are on
the nest. Also, flatheads tend to agree with us that they taste good.
