Well, my sone decided that it was time he caught a big fish like daddy. So I rigged a Medium action, 5 foot Single Piece Ugly Stick with a Cardinal spinning reel, 12 lb test. Put some bream guts and fillet on the hook, and in about 15 minutes he was reeling in his first 3lb channel.

As I was taking his fish off, I happened to get a bite, pulled in an 8 lb channel.

Congratulations to your son on his first catfish. Congratulations to you for making it possible. I really enjoy fishin' with my oldest son and I can't wait 'till my youngest gets old enough to wind a pole.
