It is more of a setline/trotline bait for lakes and ponds more than rivers, it dispenses its scent very slowly so it is alright for a trotline left overnight, but not a very good rod and reel bait at all.
Was just reading some of the older post's But I beleive it is against rules and regs. to set lines in a lake or pond in Nebraska.

you can run lines in nebraska in lake ,pond, or river, as long as it is not listed as against the rules for that water body, they did change the rules and cut back the amount of hooks one could use to 15 a few years ago though, used to be 25.
From the 2010 Fishing Guide Regulations and Public Waters
Page 22 Under Hook - and - Line Regulations
Rivers or Streams - - A total of 15 hooks are allowed, ranging from 15 lines each with a single hook attached,to three lines with a max. of five hooks attached. Anglers must be at least one-half mile from any lake, pond or reservoir that is associated with a river or stream. These can be rods and reels, poles, bank lines, or set lines that are attached to the bank and not free floating. Further down the page - - IT IS UNLAWFUL TO --Use limb lines or set lines in any pond, lake or reservoir.

Not sure when they did it ! But I thought I remembered reading about this before. Just wanted to let people know so nobody got into trouble. They will also get ya if you leave your pole in a holder unattended !! I watched a warden write a guy a ticket a couple years ago. He said that a pole left unattended becomes a set line, and that set lines were elegal on lakes ponds and res. therefore the ticket. But then he also told me that it was elegal to chum (throw corn out for carp). I told him in the most polite way I could that he was full of $*it. I have went to one of the carp orama's and thats exactly what they done !! He didn't beleive me. No use arguing with him I just let it go at that. ??

One of the major problems with our laws, both for co's and reg cops is the laws are open for interpetation by each individual officer, so what one might read as legal, another might define as illegal. to damn wishy washy for for, they should be more cut and dried. My wife got a ticket for fishing with no fishing license about 15 years ago, she never fished, but had gone to the truck to bring me another pole, wasn;t even rigged up,she never cast or acted like it,just carried it to me, co said he saw he fishing which was total and complete BS. but how are you gonna prove you were not doing something? the judge is gonna take the cops word, no matter if they are lying through their teeth or not your still gonna pay.

All in all the ngpc is changing the rules quietly and stupidly, they look at everything as if it is a friggin nature park, filled with bird watchers and eco hikers, forgetting some of us actually fish among other things. I just read through the booklet again and noticed some other changes like no bait collecting below dams and spillways for 200 yards with dip nets or anything else unless otherwise stated, if you have ever caught shad for bait thats the best place is right below the inlet or outlet, but that would be illegal now! this state is getting to be a joke with the laws being passed without anyone hearing about it till it's all done and over with. they need to change the state motto to Nebraska, used to be the good life!
