John I can't see the head good enough to tell for sure. I'ts got the body markings of a copper head but I think it's a harmless water snake. Can't say for sure without getting a good look at the head. Either way I bet it made an ole man jump:lol:.

Yep, that is a Copperhead! Notice the boots that I am wearing in my profile picture. That snake is one of the reasons that I have to wear them.

Man you are one lucky guy. That is most definately a copperhead and they are not afraid of anybody. They will just lay there and wait for anything to come by.

John, That slippery critter has kin over here in NE Oklahoma.
Workin in the yard this morning, I stepped on the head of one - not hard enough to do him any damage. Didn't even see him till I moved around the other side of the stump to clip some more branches. He was just a baby, a foot long. Had the pruning shears right there with me, so Kevin made sure to put his neck outta joint with those.
Glad you were able to get outta that one's way real quick!

most deff a copper head, nasty lil bloak, i have tangled w/a few of them in my time. just be careful when in their territory, they r like cotton mouths, bite first then bite again. i came close to bein bit sev times by them an cotton mouths an rattlers, course i go lookin for'em. a buddy of mine has a 10 acre plot w/a stock tank on it, an every summer we go snake huntin before we start th fishin season on th tank. best advice i can give, leave'em be, back away as slow as you can. u should be good, no sudden or quik agressive type movements an u will be fine. dont attack unless u KNOW u will kill it.
