Here's the pics of my spoonie from today.
It sure did taste good, but man it was a lot of work cutting off all that red meat! :)

Congrats on the catch, Eric. A little tip: I just cut the filet off whole and lay it down flat on a board. Take the filet knife and lay it flat at the tail end of the filet about an eighth or quarter inch above the skin and start fileting it forward. If done right the red meat will all be still attached to the skin, Except for the little bit of meat down the center of the filet which you can then V out. It may look like you have wasted some meat, but any of it with that red isn't worth having at all anyway. Vern

Almost forgot, I also use the same tactic to clean cats, except you can get a little closer to the skin, because the red doesn't run as deep in them. Vern

Dang! Why didn't I think of that?! I skinned the darn thing like a catfish & then had to fillet my fillets.
This is the 1st one i've ever done. the last time I caught a spoonie was over 25 years ago & dad cleaned that one. :)
    Thanks!

Way to go Eric! That's just the right eatin size. I've always just steaked up spoonies, cut around the tail a little, twist and pull out the noodle and then skin it. Then steak it in 1/2 - 3/4 inch steaks but I also leave in the red blood line. I like that fishy taste. My wife says it taste likes mud, I'll take her word on it cause I ain't ever eat any mud.

Great fish. Here in Pennsylvania you are not even aloud to fish for them. How did you catch him because I thought they only ate zoo plankton?

Yes, it was caught at Meyer & the pic of it next to my rod was taken @ Meyer, but the pic of me holding it was taken in front of my house.
