Smoked skipjack?

    As a child i remember my father driving half way accross the U.P.to buy smoked herring, and were they good! Are the skipjack we use for bait the same fish?Thankx smokey

    Were the herring smoked locally? If not, I suspect that they may have been a saltwater variety. I've eaten pickled herring, kippered (smoked) herring, and Norwegian sardines (baby herring). Here's a picture of the type herring they use.

    Just a guess. But no way..
    Skipjack have so much oil. That they would not work good in a smoker. But i you will eat them. I will smoke them.:smile2:
