just to go to a little sports bar / game room around here last year was
not a pleasant expeiriance takeing my 11 year old because of smoke
we would try to hit the days when there were less people there and hit it earlier in the evening before they filled up .
went to one this past saturday ( haven't been in a while ) i got him a pool cue and case and we went to were we used to go to find it closed and another closed we blindly found a third and we had a nice enjoyable evening
without being subjected to smoke .
anyone else find that going to a smoke free place is so much nicer???

It's nicer for a few, but not for the business owner forced to enforce a policy that will quickly put him out of business. Virtually all of Columbia's bars are out of business due to the tobacco ban. More people that drink also smoke, so if you have a business based on tobacco and alcohol, the government has no business imposing unfair restrictions on them, causing the loss of their livelihood and income imo. So now, they open bars in areas away from the city, and instead of being able to walk, or take a cab, many people will drive to these locations, and drive back, creating more of a public safety risk.

I absolutley love it!!! Just switched here not too long ago. I could care less about the buisness owners finances..more often than not I feel like their ripping people off on drink prices anyway.

I dont care if a place is smoke free, it is the owners choice. You took him to a bar, what were you expecting. 9 out of 10 people in a bar will be smoking. People need to quit whinin about smoking, if you dont like it find another place to go.People are so worried about lung cancer like its the only cancer out there. We need to face the facts that we all will die and most of us will die of cancer. How many times a day do you hear the word cancer. I hear it atleast 3 times a day an know atleast 15 people who have or have had it.With the world we live in nowadays there is no escaping it. You can get cancer in any organ in your body and at some point it seems inevitable. The days of living to be ninety are over, unless you can afford $1000 a month in pills. I wont live like that. People can lie to themselves all they want but it is just a fact that we have to face. Eat well, stay fit, die anyways.

if all them smart people say smokeing is bad for you, then why does the govt. still let them make tobacco products. well it is all about them$$$$$. #1 look at all the fed. $$$$ they get and then the states and citys get all that tax dollars also. so the whole thing is about money . then the tobacco lie to you and say that it does not hurt. i wish i could have the lungs of one of those lieing tobacco exc.'s and he could have my COPD lungs . then he could not go out to eat are anyplace tha has smoking. so you smokers give us a brake. 30min to 1 hr want hurt you to do without a smoke. THAST"S ALL

Doesn't bother me to go several hours without a smoke. Do it all the time at work. In a restaurant it's no big deal. If someone is smoking while they are eating...that's just gross. What's the point of running bars out of business to please the very few non-smokers who go in there, then whine about the smoke? Hey, it's a bar. People smoke and drink there...duh. Tobacco is a legal substance. Although it shouldn't be allowed everywhere obviously, I think that a bar should be an exception due to the fact that their customers are predominantly smokers. They shouldn't be run out of business because of a couple of whiners, and some other antis that never go in there anyways. That's BS and you know it is. It's a private business. Do you want the government to tell you that you can't drink a beer in your own home? Makes as much sense. Not to mention it's bad for the local economy when a couple dozen bars have to close up shop.

Here in Arizona it is actually a law. Smoking is banned in any public building, restaurant or bars. Pretty much the only place you can smoke is in your car and so many feet away (forgot how far)from a state or federal building.

I really does not seen to affect bussinesses a whole lot, the bars and restaurants are still packed. One place close to home even has a sign at the door saying something about that ordinance # and that the owners may or may not approve but it is the law and they will enforce it.

I personally like not having to smell smoke when I am eating out.

well i used to smoke and if i still did it wouldnt bother me so much. i dont frequent bars anymore but i like it. if a bar and grill has good food why should my kids be forced to breath smoke to enjoy the food.

public restraunts should have banned smoking decades ago!IMO. even would have said that when i smoked. kids should not be FORCED to breath second hand smoke.

you have to be 18 to buy cigs yet folks can snoke them in the same room with 1 yearolds???:eek:oooh:

never made much sense to me. and my wife has smoked in our home with our first child but when joseph was born i told her look. theres 3 now that dont want to breath your smoke. she now goes out to the deck. i didnt quit to just be subject to hers.

quitting was the greatest thing i ever did and encouradge all to try. if you succeed your food will taste better, your health will improve, and youll live longer for those kids and grandkids to hug.

and then the ban will not bother you either. bars here are still fine. everytime i go to caseys there is a huddle of the bar hoppers out smoking. dont let it get ya down. find a friend to go out to have a smoke with ya, or better yet. find a friend to give eachother support and quit togather.:cool2: i know it may be something you dont want to hear or heard a million times, but that is a tip that could save your life..

A restraunt is one thing, a bar is another. Good food or not....The only person FORCING your kids to breathe second hand smoke is the person who took them into a bar!
Non-smokers have the right to leave an establishment if it allows smoking.
Desiginated smoking areas, in a seperate room, would help free the non-smokers up. Having a SMOKE-FREE bar (or resturaunt) should be a choice of the OWNER, not the government.
If that owner decided to allow smoking, the non-smokers have the right to go somewhere else!

We don't need the government making MORE decisions for us. They dictate enough now.

In Nevada its against the law to smoke in a restaurant or bar or a convenience store or supermarket. When I smoked I would have not liked it, I dont smoke anymore so I like it. Yes in Nevada you used to be able to smoke in a Supermarket. The casino was right next to the produce section!!

even though i do agree with the fact i dont like government intrusions i do agree with the ban.there are bars in applebees. ands lots of families go there.

problem with bars is no one is gonna make a smoke free bar by choice. and there are alot of happy folks that can enjoy a bar now without fanning smoke and having irritated eyes.

i dont like the fact that gas is $4.00 either. but its just something were forced to live with unfortunatly.

bottom line is smokers are mad and non aint.

and if ya look at another point of view. if a smoker wants to ingest tar and carbon monoxide they have the right. but they should do it where 100 others are not forced to ingest it too.

believe me i see the effects on nicotine addiction everyday. my wife absoulty cannot shake the habit as much as we want her too. she will sit outside and freeze in the dead of winter to smoke. but do i feel bad. NO! its best for my kids health. if she wants to smoke. outside.

my buddie who was at catstock 04 with me has never smoked in his 36 years. ever. his mother father (who died 12years ago) and step father smoke. he has pretty much spent his adult life on a bar stool and playing pool. he has a cronic cough and coughs every 3-5 min. and never smoked. those are the ones i feel for. he could easily die of lung cancer and never took a puff.

I'll have to ride the fence on this one and take the splinters for it.
    I've smoked for years.
Food; I won't smoke while I cook or eat. (don't want ashes in the food I slaved and cared to make.)
I(we) don't smoke in our house. (Bad for my kids who don't smoke.)
A bar? Well I raely go but when I do, yes I smoke.
I think it is too easy to find a bar that caters to non-smokers.
    Why change them all?
If I go to eat out, We usually have our kids,so, we sit in the non-smoking section. If the HVAC system is set up right, smokers and non can co-exsist in an eatery.
So ya see, I'm on the fence.
    Best wishes to all.
(sorry, but, I don't take my kids to bars. No offense intended at all)

i hate people that uused to smoke and then quit, now they are to good to go into a place that has allowed smoking. or they sit behind you a complain about the smoke.when i used to smoke (1 yr 4 mo free) i would blow my smoke toward them on purpose. when i have company now i dont make them smoke outside, i find a ashtray and give that to them. so all you guys and girls who used to smoke and now dont, dont go out stay in your little bubble and quit COMPLAINING! jmo:smile2::wink:

i think taking him to a pool hall would be better if u can find one that doesnt allow smoking, but i think u would be btter off getting him a pool table for the house like i did. i dont mind ppl who smoke when i go into an environment that allows it!! i fel that bar owners should have it to their discretion whether or not they allow smoking in the place they are paying for or they own!!!!i can usually stand it but if it gets too bad i will leave, i agree non smokers & smokers can co-exist in establishments where it is allowed if the owners shelled out all the money it takes to make that happen by law!!!! but why should they just cuz the govt says so, afterall the govt still gets taxes off of them, it's just alot more now than it has ever been.. so i say if u take ur kids where it is allowed by law to smoke then u are putting them in harms way, not the guy who is smoking!!! most of this country is still free, so take them somewhere else & boycott the place by not giving them ur money, that is ur choice also!!!!
