Friend of mine drove by the spillway sunday afternoon,
said there was a bunch of huge cats swimming around.
He said it looked like the water was to low downstream
for them to get out of there.People were everywhere trying
    to catch/snag them.

There are big flatheads, but they hug the bottom. Most likely he was seeing bighead/silver carp.

Thats what I said(carp)but he swore they were
huge cats.I might check it out this weekend.
Do you know if the Hiway C bridge area is fishable?
I had some good luck there but
sometimes the lake is to low.

I've been hearing that people been catching crappie 10 foot down in the trimble area. I would guess hit all the timber rows hard. Good luck

We fished the deep water brushpiles. Caught lots of fish but only had 6 keepers and 3 white bass. We also lost a couple real nice ones at the boat. Chart. seemed to be the best color yesterday.

I always thought about trying it there, but don't know how to get there. How do you get there coming from Independence or say from 435?

You can probably fish downtown now, it's already starting to flood a little here in Smithville. The Little Platte is 5-6 feet over flood stage.

435 towards the airport to 169 north. That'll take you right into town. Follow the signs from there. I just drove downtown and the Little Platte is about 5 feet from going over 169 hwy.

Its going to get bad if the rain don't stop. There seems no stop to the rain. I bet it will rain all next week too, with the hurricane

I fished yesterday morning for several hours. Went up the Little Platte Arm and had no problems netting shad. Drifted a couple flats up that way with no success. Went up Roberts Creek and caught 2 channels in short order in 1.5' of water. Had to leave shortly there after. One was about 4# and one about 2#. They are still letting a bunch of water out of the lake.
