Took a walk around the north end.Still iced up pretty good, but on a south facing bay/mud flat there was about a 4 foot strip of open water along the shore.

Just by walking the edge and using a regular landing net I was able to scoop up a bucket of shad. They were all the same size...about 3 inches....lost 75 percent due to large mesh of net.
These were nice lively ones...not winter kill.Water very muddy so I was just blindly scooping or watching for dimples on the surface.

Not much of a fishing report, but at least I got something:big_smile:

If anyone is bored this week and wants to get some bait...give me a holler and I'll give you the exact location.

The wind is nice though helps get rid of the ice faster.

Change my mind? NEVER! A chance to be out on the water or sit on my arse? Dude I was out there for about 5 hours running around at full throttle. From the damn all the way to almost W bridge is open. I guess I'm a real man I was out playing around. Never wet a line was having to much fun playing in the waves splashing water all over the boat. Just have to dress for it.

I wanted to run over to Smithville today with the nice weather but had to put a water pump on the truck. Oh well, maybe I can get out next weekend. Where did you find the shad, it might give me some place to look next weekend. Also does anyone know if you can motor through the refuge yet. I can't remember if it is Feb. 15th or March 15th.
