Welcome aboard Mark. I don't know about the fishing rules in Ky, but in Michigan, we use smelt for bait all the time. Years ago, our Great Lakes were full of those little silver bullets. In the Spring, the first to mid April when the smelt run was on, it was nothing to fill coolers full of the little fish in a couple hours of fishing. As far as table fare, they are the finest eating fish that swims. Smelt is an oily fish, that gives off a good scent. Give them a try and let us know how they work.

As long as they are dead you can use them.
