Afternoon Brothers. I just returned from a weekend of being outsmarted by every fish in Santee. Some fellers in my group had some nice catches, I think the biggest one went about 32#. Friday night I had some decent strikes but nothing in the boat. The water was really moving in the canal. Saturday we fished the upper lake around the dam concentrating on humps adjacent to deep holes. Nothing. I tried drifting the canal. Nothing. My motor broke down on me saturday night. Fresh out of the shop too. I had a very smelly batch of stink bait made up. I just knew this stuff would produce fish. Nothing. Oh, well can't catch em' all the time. The important thing is I had a great time, without causing damage to person or property. The folks at Black's Camp were awesome. I may try to go back sometime next month if I can get my motor running.

Zebco, was stinkbait the only thing you tried?
I'd suggest some live or fresh cut bait.
Check with Jim herring. he knows a lot about Santee.
Sorry bout the skunkin.

Sorry to hear you were skunked but if stinkbait was all you tried its not suprising.Prepared baits usually work well in the lower lake where the channels are more predominant.See the report on lake Moultrie posted earlier by Roundhill. They had great success mostly at night on the lower lake.In any case you were fishing and had a good time. The Blacks Camp crew is as good as it gets and if you really want a good trip get a few friends to go together with you on a guide trip.Kevin Davis the owner of Blacks guides during the week and he is an A+ guide. That way you will get a good working knowledge of areas to fish and techniques.

No, stinkbait wasn't all I used. We caught some small bream and perch. The guys in my group caught their fish on perch heads. You can bet I tried what they tried after they boated several nice cats. I didn't get to explore the lower lake like I'd hoped due to engine trouble. I saw several guides head down that way and come back with some nice catches. Everyone I spoke to said the fishing would only improve the cooler the weather and water get, so I'm hoping to give it another shot soon as I can. Let me know how you do next week Blackwater. I'm sure you'll do better than I did.
