I am curious, how big do skipjack get? I caught one yesterday that was 21" long and weighed a little over 2 lbs.

That size is not uncommon, I have weighed them in over 3 pounds. 2 pounders are routine down at cumberland city tn

You need to check your local record size for skipjack. You'll probably be surprised how small it is. You just might have a state record there.

as of 6-5-2006 the state record for skipjack herring in Kentucky is 3.1 pounds, 19" long x 12" girth. I could not find a world record in a short search.

That is pretty neat. Seems like there is alot of fish caught bigger than the record and no one really cares because they are just bait
