how do you go about catching skipjack? thrownet? certain bait?
I use 1/8oz crappie jigs/with curlytail grubs, tied 3 to a line. I have found that they like different colors at different times. You might try catching them in warm water discharges and fast water close to a dam.
Sabiki rigs and a cast net.
what do you call a skip jack? down on the gulf coast a skip jack is a saltwater fish. it's real name is lady fish. i am thinking a skip jack up where you are may be a mullet to us down south.
the skipjack they are talking about is a type of herring ... think of a big sardine (up to a pound or so in some places).
Yes, they are a type of herring, but around here we catch them between 1 and 3 lbs. They are to fast to catch in a castnet though!!! you may catch a few small ones from time to time but, not often!
a 3 pound sardine ... hate to see the size of saltine cracker that goes with it. :cool2:
