when is the best time to get skipjack.
thank you all.
Skipjacks are caught year round in Kentucky and Tennessee waters as well as other states too. If you are looking to score big numbers of them....then a trip to the Steamplant or Dam is necessary. If you are looking to only catch a few to go fishing with...you can usually catch a few on the shores of Lake Barkley. Hope this helps. There is another thread entitled (Catching Skipjacks)in the Skipjacks forum, where we are talking about locations and techniques as well. Check it out and join in the fun!!!!Welcome to the BOC !!!
I live in Powell CO Ky. Wound like to find a place close.
welcome to the B.O.C snowden:smile2:
All year round...sun up and sun down are about the best time of day.
What part of the state are you in?
Welcome to the BOC Walter.
Your best bet will probably be C City for several.Somebody in your area may know somewhere closer.
Aberdeen power plant ? Can you catch skipjack there this time of year. Can you fish for them from the bank.
Thank you .
Walter Welcome to the BOC, from So. Illinois. Yes they can be caught from the bank or boat, below the dams as previously stated.:0a23::0a25::0a25:
Yes!! you should be able to. The Aberdeen power plant is a warm water discharge so you should be able to. Keep us posted if you have any luck. Been thinking of making a trip up there myself.
Skipjack fishing would like to see pic of baits or rigs to catch them on.This is new to me.
I'll try and get some pics tomorrow or Sunday and post them for you to look at.
Here is a link to the pictures. They are in post31 and 32 of this thread
Hope this helps.
Think's for the pic.
also work well, 2 or 3 tied to your line, white, orange and pink work best for me.People also use rostertails with blades.
I think they can be caught with about any lure that is for pan fish or trout.
hey-operator and I were on the cumberland the first week of January and they were running then 2 at atime , we caught 20 or so in about 10 minutes. that was just below a steam plant
we were using 2 white jigs and a silver spoon at the bottom of the rig worked great the lures were about 1 foot apart. I think between now and March they were saying is the best time. he said bring coolers to fill and vacum freeze for later use
