Can anyone tell me how far north on the Mississippi that Skips are common and can be caught in numbers?
Are there many around say Quincy Illinois?
What would be the best time of year to catch them.

I am considering a trip to catch some this month. I have looked at heading to the Paducah Ky. area but it would be a 900 mile round trip. Quincy Il. would only be 500. Thanks for the help!

Alan a little update on skipjack at Ky Dam and Barkley Dam. I was there this morning and some gates were open and the water was swift and high. No skipjack were being caught at either place. I would suggest you get updates just before making any skipjack runs anywhere. If you making a run to the Ky area I would wait until the Ky site forum is talking skipjacks presence.

The St Louis guys seem to travel to Kentucky Lake or Cumberland City for skipjack, so I'm doubtful you will find anywhere closer along the Mississippi through there where you can catch them in numbers.

Look for warm water discharge at power plants at this time of year..
