Well, I actually dont get a chance to fish some of the smaller lakes in Kentucky. But I can tell you as one who fishes the larger lakes of Barkley and Kentucky lakes. I have always caught my best and biggest fish on Bluegills. Live Bluegills for Large Flatheads......Bluegill heads for Large Bluecats and Large channelcats. After that it is Cut-skipjacks!!!!!!

What ever bait is in the lake you are fishing would be first choice ! My second choice would be shad (IF) it is legal alot of little KY lakes now have a zero peices ,parts live shad policy . Make sure before using it !

I have fished Dewey and Yatesville. I would lean toward blue gills at this time or year.Put a smaller one where it wouldn't normally be and they can be deadly. Creek chubs in spring. Shad would be any time bait. Have not fished skipjack in either one yet.
