I was wondering how to catch skipjack.
Can you catch them on a rod & reel or nets.
We catch them here on jigs tied about 3 or 4 on your mian line. We use both hair jigs and tube jigs that you use for crappie. Try several different colors to see what they are biting that day. Usually they are up near the surface of the water and like to bite at them if you kind of jerk them and let them fall. We usually do our best in late March, April and May in the tailwaters below the dams on the TN River. Later in the summer we catch them off the ends of the rock dikes here on the MS River. In the winter they get in the steamplant discharges where the wter is warmer. Hope that helps.
I normally only tie two crappie jigs on my line because catching two big skipjack at once is all I want to handle. Even with just two skippies on, I've had them break 10# mono frequently enough that I switched over to my lightest catfish rod.
Thanks for the info. I'm going to Hopewell tommorrow
to try and catch my first blue. I'll take some crappie lures
