Just installed my new 898c si a few days ago. I have a question about the transducer mounting bracket for you guys that also have the side imaging transducers. I tightened the pin/bolt that attaches the transducer to the bracket as tight as I could. However there is still a little play in it which allows the transducer to rattle a little. Is it supposed to be like this or should I put an extra washer in there (there was no extra washer in the box)?

Thanks for the replys. The unit was getting quite a bit of interence when i took it out after I installed it, so I moved it 3/4" last night. I figured the interference was mostly from location, but also wondered if the "play" in the mouting bracket was causing some of it. Went to the humminbird site last night and checked out the FAQ and found my answer. It says the "wiggle" is normal (Humminbird - Support). After moving the transducer a little last night I took the boat out to the lake today to test my adjustments. Crystal clear, amazing how a little adjustment makes that much difference. Very happy with this unit. Only bad thing is that since I don't have a jack plate my motor blocks about half of the left side imaging. Tilting the motor up helps quite a bit but i'm still not sure I'm getting the whole picture. Thats okay though, still an incredible unit.

Steve, You said you moved the transducer 3/4 in. Which way and what is the relation to the bottom of the back of the boat.
Decided it would be easier to use pictures to explain. One picture is up close, the other is zoomed out a bit to give you an idea where it is in relation to the motor. The zoomed in picture should give you an idea how deep I set it, which is what you were asking in the second part I think.

The first location I had it was too close to the rib on the right. I thought it was centered, but I was wrong and the interference was from the turbulent water behind the the rib. I moved it to the left about 1/2 or 3/4" so it was as centered as I could get it. Like I said, the first time I did it the edge of the ducer was a little bit behind the rib, that wasn't on purpose... guess I should have been more careful the first time. But thats why I installed a mounting plate, I kind of figured on having to move it around a bit. For what its worth, it was suggested to me to get a transducer mounting plate and I would suggest that to anyone else planning on installing a transducer.

Hope this answers your questions, let me know if you need any help.

It should have a lil play still. At least with the bigger SI tranducers with the 898's and up. Depending on where you fish mostly, I wouldn't tighten the pin/bolt all the way. It kind of gives you a lil extra insurance if you hit something with it. The kick up bracket takes a lot of pressure to pop the transducer out. So not having the pin/bolt tightened all the way will save ya sometimes. It took me a couple transducer replacements to figure that out :)
