I caught some small 2" to 4" shad yesterday with my cast net and they die before i can put them in my airated bait bucket. Is this stress or what can i do to prevent this. We're talkin about 2 minutes and they are in the bucket with the same lake water they came out of.

How deep of watching are you catching them out of? If it's relatively deep and you are pulling them up quick that could be another problem. Also, they dont just need oxygen, they need lots of fresh water especially at first. When you first catch shad they release alot of ammonia and other junk so make sure you are doing very frequent water changes.
