I have a Shimano Corsair CS400 baitcaster. The problem is lately it will let me pull about 3 foot of line out like the spool was open before the drag starts working. What could the problem be, can I fix it?

Have you had the reel apart?
IF so what did you have it apart to do?
How far down did you take it?

Well I'm starting to think that it might be the line not wrapping tightly enough of around the spool and is pulling out. I thought it was 3 feet of line but its a little over a foot pulling out.

Does the reel have infinite antireverse? I have and eagleclaw reel with self center feature and the spool turns to this spot before engaging the drag.

Well I found the problem. It was a line issue, my Power Pro was slipping around the spool so I backed it with enough 30lb big game that it covered the spool before the Power Pro starts spooling on. No more slip, I also gave it a thorough cleaning.

I run all the line off in the water then put it back on. That is the only way I could stop it on mine.
Also I sure like the SC400's but they do not hold up under hard use.

I think I'm gonna get a few Abu Garcia 6000s, they're on sale at walmart now.

The best thing about Shimanos is that if any part breaks or wears out they will send you a new one for free. I bought an old spinning real at a yard sale and the drag knob was busted. I emailed shimano and had the part in two weeks time.
