Several years ago an old fisherman told me a simple method to sharpen an electric fillet knife but for the life of me I cannot remember what he said to use. It involved using something as simple as sandpaper, foil or some such. Anyone have a a simple method that works?

i found a long round hook sharpener and it works well. it takes a little while to do but it works. just go from one serrate to the next and go back and forth about 5 times each and it will last a few more fish cleanings. more if the fish are small and a time or two less if the fish are big.

I'll bet you've got a local hardware store that has a knife sharpening service...

I use a small, round sharpener. It comes to a point on one end. It will sharpen hooks or knives and is a diamond steel. I got it at Academy for about $8. Just hit each serate a couple of times as already stated.
