Just wanted to know what you guys use to sharpen your hooks?
I have several different items that will sharpen hooks...
I have a couple diamond hone hook sharpeners and I have one that I bought years ago.. not sure what it is called but it is just a piece of plastic that hold two pieces of chainsaw files mounted side by side. This little tool will help sharpen or reshape the tip fast.
I've been using Gamakatsu's this year and haven't had to sharpen one yet.
My eagle claw kahles need sharpened all the time and i use a cheap hook sharpener, flat on one side and grooved on the other.
I agree, I don't think you could sharpen ANY hook any better than a Gama.!
I have a combination hook & knife sharpener I keep in the tackle box for edgeing up my hooks & filet fnife
3 inch hook hone, wouldn,t leave home without it!
pat i never used a sharpener on my hooks but, i might if i knew how to do it, gammas dont go dull, alot but i have got some that could be sharper from snags
I use the Daiichi/ Team Catfish Circle hooks. They take a lot of abuse and rarley need sharpened. I have had a couple get dull when fishing heavy rocks. On average, a hook can last me 3-4 months.
Gte somew gammas they are sharp enough. If your trying to sharpen old hooks i use a drimal with a diamond bit it does the job real well.
YOU DONT WANT THEM TO DULL, BUT GAMMAS ARE NEVER DULL UNLESS YOU SNAG ALOT, MID ALWAYS SHARPEN J HOOKS, OR JUST BUY MORE ,IN THE WINTER SPEND TIME SHARPINING THEM UNLESS YOUR A WINTER BLUECAT EXPERT LIKE PIP, MAN HES GOOD, YOU TELL HIM I SAID IT, LOOK AT HIS ALBUM, THATS JUST PART OF WHAT HE GOT, IM LUCKY TO GE 5 BIG ONES A YEAR, I LIVE IN A BAD AREA FOR CATFISH, IF YOU GET A 50 POUNDER YOUR A LEGEND, IF YOUR ON BANK,
i have starting to use gammas hooks and seen been using i have not sharpped one yet
