Well my friend Chris and I hit the river again today...on our cast-netting for baitfish along the bank (2-3 feet deep) We caught 2 spotted gar, spooked 1 and saw him dart off.....water temps 49-51 degrees..... something to think about.
(remember from the thread "Missed a Big Gar Yesterday"....)

The 1st picture is me holding both... I cast-netted the smaller one...1lb 12oz.

    2nd is Chris with his cast-netted gar...3lb. 13oz.

Question, what the hell are they good for. I have caught several including one that was a state record here in Indiana. I just didn't know it at the time! My river is infested with them and it is getting to the point that I can't set bank lines without them stripping off my sunfish!!!! What do you people do with them. I mean we don't even brag about them here. But maybe thats because they are all over the place. As far as I know they have no preditor and knowbody keeps them. I am not ashamed to say I kill everyone I catch because they are overiding the river. Please help me out are they good cut bait or what.
