This past weekend I finally got around to some fishing on the river.. I got down there n threw the net out a few times n well.. I pulled out some nice size shad.. id say 7 and 8 inchers.. but something was different..

These shad were covered in some thick slime, kinda reminded me of snot.. I dont recall them ever being that slimey.. is this normal or is there something going on here.. ?

Welcome to the BOC ,Don't know for sure about your shad but I do know the ones I"ve been getting is awfully slick and seem to be a little slimy so maybe it's natural for this time of year.Long as they work for bait who cares. Happy Fishin.

Thanks.. I dont know If I've ever even tried to catch any this late in the season before, so I thought it was probably normall.. they were just gizzard shad from the Ohio River.. they have been few and far between lately at my favorite spot, so seeing these made me a little happy.. even though they were a mess to hook..

gizzards are usually more slimey than ohter types of shad such as herring.
