:0a35: Two part question...How far is the mouth of black Creek and the Neuse away from the highway patrol station in Smithfield....

Has anyone ever fished for shad in that area (the mouth)

We slayed the shad in Blacks Creek last year but because of the drought Blacks creek is barley a trickle...:crying:

sounds like you have been right at the dam......creek flows under the rr track then under 95.....problay no more than 3/4 mile to 1 mile down from dam to neuse.......its comes into the neuse guessing 200-yds below 95.....i used to fish there in the 90"s aand have caught shad right at the mouth...mack....

Holts lake gets drawn down every winter. More then likely the low water condition in the creek you saw was from them closing the gates on the dam so the lake would fill back up.
I went over the lake today and it looks full so water should be running out into the creek now, if not in a few more days.

Thanks Mark, we went by there again last wed and it looked like the lake was filling back up...

Do you think the water will be deep enough for the shad to make it up to the spillway? or is gonna take a couple of inches of rain to get them up there?
