WAs wondering how many people tried to keep shad alive or put on ice or use for cut bait.
I myself just use them on ice to keep fresh. I have tried to keep them alive but is too much hassle. Dont think it makes a difference when it comes to shad or skipjacks.

i just put the gizzard shad in a ziploc bag on ice, and be careful to not let them sit in the water. i put big gizzard shad in a wire fish basket in the water when we fish for flatheads. they get red nosed, but still stay pretty frisky for the night. as for keeping them alive for any period of time after that, i have had no luck.

I just started using frozen herring {twice so far}. I havent caught anything yet, but then nobody could buy a bite its been really bad fishing here. Keith Schloemer from Fish on Bait a BOC sponsor supplies them here in Las Vegas through Wally World. So far they stay on the hook unlike anchovies or sardines. :cool2:
