shad for cutbait?

    where do you guys get shad big enough for cutting up for catfish bait?

    I'll tell you the only place that has been good for me to dip shad is below a dam or below a power plant.
    In cumberland city Tnn we would dip shad from below that power plant.
    Yes, the cut shad is good bait and the Guts is better,but Skip jack is a sure thing.

    Most spillways have alot of shad, so does many lakes and rivers, I got a godd shad spot in a local river which is a pond that when the river floods it fills it with shad.

    Don't be afraid to use small shad as cut bait. I've caught plenty of nice channels on a 3in shad cut in half. If you want big shad, I would say take a boat on a good shad lake. I've seen a few shad near the bank, but the majority have been out in open water.

    Best place for me is smaller rivers off the big rivers or backwater pools

    most of the trophy size shad I have ever netted were in deeper water. Right now the only place I have found any were behind a rock jetty in a kinda small lake.
