Shad And Suckers Bait

    If the only way of catching shad and suckers is with a rod,How would you fish for them?? What Bait?? Thanks Jeff :)

    hmm... i catch them here in indiana with a cast net.. havent heard of anyone trying them with rod n reel..

    why is that your only method to catch them?

    Well ive tried to use a net and cant get on with it... plus the cricks where i get bait have a lot of snaggs.

    where is it your from? theres a few decent spots in the indianapolis area to get shad and chubs...

    For the suckers, you would want to put a nightcrawler on the bottom of those cricks. I have only ever caught shad with a net or by snagging.

    thats it rite there, good answer,jm. fish suckers this time of year at feeder creeks. they will be pushing up those creeks to spawn. make sure you vacume pack some for later in the year too!

    I catch suckers on nightcrawlers,use some split shot and fish them on the bottom.

    to catch suckers i use a regular 2/0 j hook.

    I like a # 6 hook for the suckers. I like the suckers in 12 to 14" range for bait.

    i like size 6's and 8's for suckers.

    i use size 8 or 10 circle hook with crawler or meal worm on the bottom, when they hit they just kind of site there. all you will see is your rod bounce once or twice then nothing, but they are on. atleast thats what usaully happen for me hope this helps. justin
