I've got old Infisherman tapes were they say you can tell the sex of older channel cats by the females being olive color with smooth heads and the males being slate grey with the humps on top of their heads. Thing is I've caught some that fit the bill for a male but had eggs in them.:confused2:

Normally female channelcat keep their spots that they are born with. Up to 10 lbs anyway which is biggest female ive caught. And their head is smoother and smaller than a male. Typically males are darker but if water is muddy they have a lighter color than clear water cats.

Females will also have smaller mouths, look at the top lip, if it is large and over lapping the bottom lip it is probably a male. Males will also turn a light blue color during the spawn.
