When should i set the hook when targeting channel cats? right with they bite or wait till the weight of the fish is felt(like topwater bassin), or let them take the bait and set whenever u want to(like with flounder fishing)?

Take all the guess work out of it and get some circle hooks. When the rod loads up....just pull up and reel them in....no jerking necessary.:cool2:

Like John said. Circle hooks are the solution, no hook-set needed.

Brian Welcome to the BOC. If you are using a kahle or J hook you need to set the hook when you feel the fish on. If using circle hooks, follow the advice of the above post.

Set the hook when you feel a good solid load on the rod, or go with circle hooks and let them do the job for ya! If you do go with circles, make sure you don't have any bait between the shank and the "point" of the hook.

I use nothing smaller than a 6/0 circle you would be suprised how small of a fish can take that down.
