I had a 40 horse with electric shift on a 14' flat bottom boat and it worked fine as long as I kept the lower unit lube changed to keep out condensation or moisture of any kind, it would jump out of gear at high speed if any water got in there. It also takes a lower unit lube thats just for electric shifts.

You have to keep that electric shift lower unit water free and it takes a type C oil. Don't put regular lower unit oil in it because it won't shift.
I ain't to fond of them but I have on that I run also so I try to keep it up and going.
