Well... :sad:I miss a big one. Let me back up.... Went down to bass pro the day it started raining before the flood and spent 40 on a new spin combo. It was the last one they had. The rod
has gotta be 12fter and the reel is a bass pro reel. Anyway, so far so good. It will cast.:good:
Caught me some big bream and baited up. Decided to fish some shallow water off the bank in hopes to run across a big flatty crusing for gills. Well.. my line was not in mabey 15 minutes right before dark when I heard a huge crash out in the water. It was too big to be a bass and if it was a bass it would have been a world record. Looked out and it was near my float. My rod, luckily secured, was bouncing like a kid in a candy store. I thought for sure I had him. Went over to my rod to set the hook and it was gone. Oh well.
I was fishing with a spinning reel and I didnt have the spool open to allow the fish to swim off with the bait. Or I needed a spin reel with a clicker. Had to have been a big flatty to make such a wake. This is the first decent action I have had since the first of the year...

It's always sucks to think that you missed the "big one". It's happened to be many times this year already... hang in there... go back to the same spot, feed'em another gill and this time be expecting him!

Good luck!

Sounds like you have a Catbuster Combo from BassPro Shops. It looked like a good setop for $40 when I was down there. Les mentioned you need an Okuma ABF reel with the baitrunner. I have 3 of those in assorted sizes and from now on, if I buy a spinning reel I want one with a baitfeeder. You can also get a Saltwater Striker combo at Cabelas which is basically the same thing.

You are exactly right Festus. For the money its a good deal. I may have just lost a good fish because of no clickers or whatever it was I needed though. I got the one that had the long rod. They had two setups, one w/ short and one with the long rod. I tell you what..it will cast.

Wow, John, that's a heartbreaker. I used to fish there a lot as a kid - I grew up in Hermitage. Bo and I were talking about going down there more this year. Sounds like we've got good cause to go now! Maybe you can find him next time.

I grew up in Hermitage too. Right next to the stones river across from the old Donelson Hospital. Had some great memories there of fishin, huntin and trying to stay out of trouble.
