Rock salt or sea salt to save your dead bait so it doesn't go to waste. Just don't use iodized.

How long does it stay? I remember salting bream ans teh salt drew out all the moisture in the fish. The fish ended up being skin and bone. Maybe I used too much salt?

I have a bucket of salted shad I have had for 5 years. Used it many times and never had a hit on one.
