Sauger as flathead catfish bait

    do you guys thing suagers would be a good bait for flatheads? i have a $hit load of them where i fish...and does anyone know the legal size to keep them?

    I'm almost positive you could use them for bait in PA. The holy fish commission allows trout there prize possession to be used so I figure hell they would surely allow sauger. You can check the Gestapo's website to see legal limit size, but I'm almost sure the legal size is 12". Figure this one out You're not allowed to use carp but you can use mostly any other fish for bait except for endangered species.:confused2:

    What part of Pa do you fish Nick? I'm southwest and we got lots of saugers.

    i fish the beaver river in beaver county...its a small river that feeds into the ohio.

    nick forget using the saugers for bait.batter fry and eat them babys.fish with perch.

    Ah yes I forgot Saugers are better cooked than they are bait, Try suckers and chubs they work great.:wink:

    They'll die really quick on the hook.Pass right on by the bait bucket and throw them in a pan:wink:
