Would it be a good spot to catch flatheads at night on a shallow sandy flat in the river. It varies from 1 to 3 ft deep and it is a fairly large sand flat.

sandy flats are good but only close to deep water. The flatheads will move onto the flats in search of food in the late evening to early night time. Through experience and not folklore, I have had better success on flats atleast 4 feet deep, but thats just me.

I love sand flats that are near deep water, I catch most of my flahteads from them, mainly at night.
