Rookie with a castnet

    I picked up a castnet a few months ago and I'm learning to find and catch shad. Unfortunately for me most times my net is full of sunfish. Too bad it wasn't legal to catch sunfish with a castnet in Ohio. I'd be the bait king. lol

    i would never keep a netted gill. i think they are on the endangered species list:wink:

    heck, i think i found a bream bed last week w/ my net. In one throw I had 4 or 5 big orange belly bream, and a 15" largemouth........i think the bass was there trying to eat some eggs.....too bad I couldn't legally keep any of em'......

    shad are kinda spread out in the lakes right now,unless you want to catch 100 lbs of the babies in one throw.

    I did get 24 BigGizzard shad the other night under a dock light with one cast with a net,,,,vac. sealed for frozen cut bait stocked the freezer for later.
