I have a pretty big okuma trolling reel on a 7 foot ugly stik catfish rod for snagging and catfishing in rivers. the rod looks huge on the reel. but the real problem is i cant cast far at all. if i got a longer rod, like a 12' bigwater ugly stik, would it help much on the casting distance?

I don't think trolling reels are made for casting any distance. You might try a abu garcia 6000, it cast pretty good and it doesn't cost that much. I have a two of them on 7' MH ugly stiks, and I can cast them pretty far.

Yes, a longer rod will help your casting distance. Using a smaller diameter line can also help increase your casting distance. Hope this helps.
