I need some help and information on river fishing. I am going to be fishing the Savannah river tomorrow night. What kind of bait would be good. I figured blue herrring, bream, and some nightcrawlers. Also what kind of sinker will help to keep it on the bottom. I usually use egg sinkers. I know they will not work in a current. So what kind of sinker would be good

try using a no roll sinker
then you can use it like a egg sinker but will hold alot better
try to fish the eddys out of the current

The bait you mention sounds fine, especially the herring and bream. Gus is right on about the no-rolls, they are the best weights to use while anchored in current or bankfishing a river. Good luck on the Savannah.

For bait I would use shad.

I'm not sure about no-rolls, but I have found that the best weights for fishing current are the donut-shaped ones with a brass "handle" coming off the side. (no hole in the middle though) They just sit on the bottom and don't move at all.

You can only fish straight behind your boat

You can only fish straight behind your boat

No roll sinkers you can cover more water cause you can fish at an angle from
the boat instead of just straight downstream from the boat
