rewire boat

    im going to rewire my boat,all acc bilge,guages,lights ,livewell,etc what guage wire should i use ,will the same wire be ok for all these?

    The best wiring job would be to AYBC standards which has a color code to be used for each item like a horn, lights, bilge pump, etc. and uses tinned wire.

    You can get by without using tinned wire on inland waters with GOOD connection points and using alot of care to prevent water intrusion into the jacket.

    Saltwater use, definately spend the dough for tinned wire. No way around it.

    Stay away from solid wire and use a fine stranded conductor.

    Shoddy wiring on a boat quickly rears its ugly head and most of those times its when you most need it.
    Keep in mind you are wiring a DC system. The ampacities and voltage drops are worlds apart from AC ampacities and voltage drops. 2 feet can mean the difference in a larger wire size. You have to be really aware of how long your runs are, what your amperage requirements are and check them with a DC table.
