perhaps it should be made known that, how the reputation level works is located in the FAQ

i've spent the past 2 hours making posts and submitting reviews to help users in this forum and suddenly i went to a negative repuation .. i searched back through my posts to find the negative comment which was "very good post" .. which means i think we all need to head on over to the FAQ and read how it works

negative is BAD and postive numbers are GOOD

this repuatation level is an EXCELLENT new feature on this board .. it lets users know just how informative a person is in relation to their reputation and knowledge .. obviously a really informative, in depth post should allow the poster to recieve a reputation upgrade .. on the flip side someone making negative comments, arguing, and giving bad info or flat out lying should be given a downgrade

edited to add: i am NOT speaking for the board or admin .. this is simply MY take on this after reading the FAQ

Thanks for reminding us. Mistakes can and will happen. I know, when I had the same thing happen to me. I know the person quite well who gave me a negative, and over which post. By reading his reply to the post, I knew it was just a mistake on his part and let it drop. I saw no reason to bring it up to him and possibly embarrass a good friend. I figure it will all equal out in the long run and have gotten positive rep when for the life of me, I can't see how for the particular post.

i felt it needed to be brought to the forefront .. sure i was upset it happened to me, but this feature is a MAJOR benefit to this board's members

most people just sign up and never read the rules and FAQ

sure i went a little over board explaning the situation but after spending a few hours helping people at 2am that can get to you pretty quick

Are you putting to much stock into the Rep. points I give them out pretty freely if I like something that you say I will give you a point. If you make me laugh I will give you a point. If you have helped someone I will give you a point. I give them out alot because I really dont think that it matters that much. I gave trippy a neg once didnt mean to so gave him anouther one when he emailed me asking why. Its really no big deal to me. Matter of fact I just gave kutter one because Im hoping I didnt give him a Neg. Im with Keith FWMUD on this one it really doesnt matter if I dont like what you are saying I will come out and tell you.

Speaking about the PM...I think its a great idea. I wish the response time was a lot quicker, but hey, we have it, and something better than nothing. If they do fix it...great, if not, oh well, I can live with it! :)

When site first open, I gave a - RP one time and wish I would have handled it different. I wont do that again. Live and learn. That is history. Its all good now.

I will not give a - R.P. just because I dont agree with someone's view. For me, there aint no need in swapping punches over short term disagreement etc. . I hope its short term. LOL. If someone becomes abusive, just down right can't get along, I still probably wont give em one, I'll just ignore em, try to say my piece once, maybe PM them to work it out or open a trouble ticket.

I know I should be more careful and watch what I'm doing. I sometimes get jumpy with the mouse, maybe in a hurry. Sometimes it may not move smoothly due to low memory, low resource's etc., my finger has click accidentally on internet sites. Just can't trust a mouse or key board. LOL.

If anyone has ever gotten a - R.P. from me, it was a mistake. I will write a commit to a R.P. I give out so it will match what I'm giving, just in case I made a mistake. If it shows - and I say, thats a good post, then you know I messed up and ment to give a +. I made that mistake once and I don't think I will make a mistake like that again but if I do, let me know by pm.
I do wish we didn't have to spread around so much before voting on another post ( post is what I vote R.P on ) from same person but that is the rule, its there for a reason, which is to keep one from abusing it. Seems to work OK so far.
No one has to worry about me dogging someone with - RP

One question. When handing out a R.P. on a thread, (not someone's post), does it go to the person that started the thread or is it a vote just on the thread itself. I really don't wont to hand out neg's on people but a thread may be different. Guess I need to re-view the rules on that one. LOL.
I'm still learning this stuff and I don't want to become a problem member.

Isn't response time from who ever you had PM. That is up to the person as to when they get back to ya, if they decide to respond to a pm. I have sent a pm that really didn't require a response, unless they just wanted too.
One thing I don't understand. Unless it's changed, why can't we pm more than one an hour. Maybe that is what people mean in response time. Only thing I can figure on that is, it loads up the server with pm's. Cost more to run an email server. I'm guessing .

All said and done, I love this bar.
Ok, who needs a Hug. LOL

Ive read the FAQ on reputaion over and over..... I still don't completely understand the concept. I get some of the general gist, (how and who passes reputation points to people?) But to me it seems with out a panel (admin staff) reviewing the hand out of Rep points. You can have little clique's or groups forming, ( buddy pumping) building each other up with rep points. Sure WE ALL want to make sure that useful and valuable information is being submitted for the benifit of our members, but In fishing there are so many variables, and part of the process of learning is open dialoge in a constructive manner. It seems that some people are so concerned about thier reputation that they won't go out on a limb to express themselves for fear of Retribution.

I myself am a novice catfisherman and a novice to this site. I can see some points of benifit for the reputation system but with out checks and balances (primarly from a panel or admin staff). Is the system accurate??? Maybe its that I'm not very concerned with repution being worn as a status symbol. Those of us that are serious fishman (any type of fishing) with any amount of time logged on this site know who the knowlegeable and experienced people are, but more importanly we all can learn from each other

I wholeheartedly thank all of you for your posts and threads. You all have exponentially shortend my learning curve, and allowed me to enjoy great successes In this facet of Fishing.
Thanks again

I think this whole rep thing is being blown out of proportion! It seems some people are more worried in how they appear to the masses than whats really important. I could care less how many points I have beside of some green dot as long as I enjoy the site and others enjoy my company! On the old site it was post count, I guess this will be the replacement?! Let's just have fun folks and get along as a fishing family and community. As for popularity contests go, well that went out the window about the time I graduated high school!

My general feeling from what I know about the reputation is that you should just post and let the chips fall where they may. I don't fully understand it, so I don't worry too much about it because I can't control people's responses to my thoughts. I just post, and let everything else take care of itself...However, I do appreciate the original poster highlighting givng someone negative reputation accidentally. How do you do that by the way?
Hopefully, I have never given anyone a negative rating as I've "approved" the post that I've graded thus far. I'd rather tell you out in the open for everyone to see if I disagree with something you said. This way, you and everyone else will know my feelings. That way I can establish a reputation of being upfront by being direct and above board, instead of hiding in the shadows with negative comments. To me, that's more important than how many green, red or blue dots I get...

I am with both quadman and dreamcatcher on this one. I would rather we didn't even have the rep power thing. Personally, I don't pay it a lot of attention. If someone consistently posts bad or offensively (to me), I just tend to skip over their posts, or scan over them quickly. I've not given any bad reps to anyone, but there have been a couple that I thought were inappropriate, considering there are young kids and ladies that use this site.
If I ever offend anyone, I hope they will send me a PM and discuss it, because I wouldn't purposely post something like that. Pretty much all of us at some time will probably post something that is offensive to someone else, intentional or not. Also some of the bad posters, (and there are few), will sometimes post very good info. Let's just try to get along, guys. I thought we did a good job on the old site, why not here?

ya. i agree as well. heck if i get a big red neg that doesn't meen im gonna run off. it just means i have work to do. im like chuck. if ya helped with good info ill give ya one or i agree ill give ya one. it would take something really degrading or just plain stupid for me to dish out a neg. i just post my differing opinnion or ignore it.

its nice to see it go up and know your helping out or some folks agree with ya but im not loosing sleep over it either. jmo.

I agree with tank. I have had good posts and get a neg. just because they don't agree. I have given a neg. for a bad post with Tea for instance. He came back and gave me a neg. and said that is what paybacks are. Is that what it is there for. I say do away with rep points and the post counts and you will see better posts and better information put in them.

OK heres a good way to look at the Rep. button give it to anyone and everyone like I said before someone makes you laugh give them a point. Someone helps someone else give them a point. Someone makes a good point give them a point. Don't make it a popularity contest but look at it as more like a ataboy. Its simple guys its a good thing to know that someone enjoyed what you posted or agrees with what you posted or even disagrees with what you posted. I don't use it to dog anyone but if some one is really making the BoC or the group of us look bad ill dog them out that would be the only reason. Besides that embrace it and have fun with it shoot its only a little button. Give some Rep out it will make you feel better.....LOL
