Just heard on the news that next week the Corps plan on reducing flows from Gavins Point. They said this was due to below normal precipitation the first 4 months this year.

We set some lines a few miles downstream from I-70 on Friday. JC gauge was at 13.7'. There were just a couple wing dams showing like they should be. Tops are blown off most all of them. Will probably need it down to 12' to get them out of the water.

Dock at Yankton park, in city, you could barley tie boat to it for launch or retreave. That was at 12.5 foot. About 30,000cfs from Gavins dam about 6 miles away. However, James was still outa banks.

We only had a slight rise here(between Waverly and Miami).
The flathead are starting to bite. Caught a 17.5 and 43 lber this past week. Both rod and reel fish on live gills fished under a bobber.

Yup got a few flatheads tonight as well... Seems like they are finally coming out.... Caught em at night just off the bank with live and dead shad.... @JHH what locations are you looking for on the river to throw your baits to with a float??

Both these flathead were along rip rap bank in a channel swing. My thought is that the flathead are traveling it as they move towards feeding and spawning grounds. Any type of eddy the fish are using to lessen the effect of the current.

Heavy rains along northern part of the state is going to cause river to go over flood stage. Time to change fishing locations.

It had started coming up here Sat. evening. I know some guys that set lines but had very poor success thru yesterday.
I had been catching a few flatheads earlier in the week and chose not to fish this weekend and doesn't look like I missed much. Think I will try it this evening though.

224kcfs and 23' on the JC gauge this morning and it's still rising.

I think this weekend I'll stay home and paint the garage and stain the deck and do all those other things I've been meaning to do.
