it depends on where you want to stay. the red starts at breckinridge and runs north from there. the farther north you go the bigger the fish. look at the grand forks area. also maybe check with one of the guides in that area(there is one that is on here that is well known). fargo right off of 94 is okay area also.

what part of missouri are you from. I have fished by nevada, mo at bushwacker lake. I would like to get back down there some year again and maybe over to kansas to see my relatives and fish with them.

East Grand Forks has a nice state park right on the river right in town and only a block from a boat ramp. There is another ramp on the Grand Forks side just a few blocks north, on the down river side of a low head dam.
Then if you want to go north more, there is the town of Drayton, they have a nice city run camp ground just a few blocks from the boat ramp.
Hope this helps!

I am thinking of coming to Minnesota in August, to fish Red River where can I stay?

And if you want to come to Missouri I can help on where to stay thanks.[/Q
Shotgun Bill,
I live in Breckenridge Mn at the head of the red, and the catfishing is awesome. Lots of great eaters, and plenty of big fish too. Your not gonna catch alot over 20 lbs but 10-15 is real common, like the other guy said the farther you go north the bigger they get. What part of MO. Ironically, I met one of best friends who lives in St. Joseph when they came up here cattin. Would love to help you out any way I can if you come up just let me know when and if you do.

I been to Fargo/moorhead area, lots of parks on the banks, last year with a MN license or ND license could fish either side or middle of the river. It was a bit cold, and still a little high but fishing was good, if ya get ND license check the Cheyenne river too., I heard of a tournament there end of July/early August every year, was planning on going to that, won't get there till some time in Aug if I get there this year.

I second the Drayton suggestion from David, although I don't have experience anywhere else on that river. My father, brother and I went up there (from KC) last fall and stayed at that city park. Decent place, quiet enough and friendly people. Fished upstream of the dam for a couple days, then ventured to the ramp below the dam. Next time we'll start there first. Catch a bunch of mooneye in the early morning at the dam, then non-stop action on downstream for a couple miles. We've now added it as one of our annual trips and can't wait to go back. Good luck! Wherever you decide to go, I don't think you can go wrong.
