This article was just published in yesterdays Pana newspaper, a 35lb, 40" channel caught on Labor Day on 8# test. To make it simpler I'll just scan and post the news clipping for the BOC, hang on tight.

A 35# channel!? That's one heck of a fish! Sometimes blues are mistaken for channels. Has it been positively identified?

Paul thats what I was thinking when I first seen the article, thats a flatty. What I think the headline meant to say was:

"Pana Lake finally ends world record drought for nothing being caught":smile2:

Fished there many times in the past and always ended up with an empty stringer, like many other anglers.

After looking at the photo, I'm with you guys. That's a flathead! Before you posted the pic, I immediately thought blue. That might be LAKE record flathead, but that's it.

Will have to wait until I am not at work.. server won't let me view it! Arg! Come on hours and tick away! haha

What I do know, Baldwin still holds the largest channel for IL at 45lbs. That was set back in 87.

    Hey Jeremy,

    :waaaht:
Don't get me wrong that's a nice fish - no matter what kind it may be.
    But:
Looking at that photo I don't think that is a Channel Cat - I think that the head is to big on it for one thing. It looks more like a Flathead.
    :confused2:

I thought the same thing mistaken a channel for a blue is common but not a Flattie...That is clearly a Flathead...you can see the barbels on his mouth and a channel's head is not shapped like that...also look at the side fins (wide) not narrow...
