It all depends on what kind of fish are native to the body of water that you are fishing, and what the catfish are eating. In the body of water that i fish shad are the best w/ bluegill at a close second!

Since we talked abit about this in the chat room I'll put my opinion down. Different waters the type of cat etc. etc. can/may/will change everthing.

For the Flatheads on the Ohio River in NE Ohio I'd have to give fresh Cut Shad a 9.5. From what little I've seen so far it out preforms frozen and frozen Skipjack too along with about any other type of cut you can think of........so far.

    Baitkiller,
I have a question about skipjack. We have moved from Clarksville Tnn and we brought some skipjack with us and its been frozen for about a year.Would it still be good or should I feed it to the racoons here.I value you opinion. We live here in Cincinnati And there isn't many places to find skipjack.
    thanks

From WHAT LITTLE I know it would be worth savin till you can get fresh. Fresh is almost always better Bill ;) . Flatheads on in NE Ohio is all I have experence with and what what I'm learning "everthing" can change on what they want and how THEY WANT IT!

I think it depends on the river your fishing, and what kind of baitfish it has. It needs to be oily. For a #10 for most rivers if they have the bait it will be. skipjack. shad. sucker. creek chub. shinner. And it has to be fresh, change every 10min. to 20.min.

Cut shad I would imagine being the best being a natural food source. Out my way cut mackeral reigns supreme. As well as cut bonita and skipjack.

I TOTALLY AGREE! I ALSO USE SMALL CARP AND DRUM FOR FLATHEADS. SMALL LIVE BLUEGILL AND GREEN SUNFISH ARE ALSO EXCELLENT FOR CHANNELS 6 LBS. AND LARGER.
