I guess what I don’t get is why China needs to rely on technology from the early 1900s to spy on the US when it operates some of the most technologically advanced low orbit satellites floating around the earth? I obviously have no idea what this “balloon” is about but I'm gonna remain skeptical on this one. I have a hard time believing all I’m told to believe these days.

The way I understand it a spy balloon moves a lot slower than a satellite pictures will be a lot better I'm sure we can contact them buzzing them with fighter jets Forcing them down

Asked the same question about why we are concerned with the balloon spying on us when there are satellites that can read the license plate on the truck in my drive. Even our civilian population has access to Goggle Earth, our Military (and I suspect theirs too) have access to real-time high-resolution imaging. Maybe it is not what we are being told it is, part of The Space Forces version of Project Blue Book maybe?

Watched Cody's auction last night, Debbie bought some stuff. Plain Diritos, haven't seen them in ages, got 2 bags for $3. I got silicone spray for $2 per can, got 8. Spent $78. A dozen farm eggs sold for $6, had 10 dozen. He's having a 75 cent sale today. Get my stuff while I'm there.
I've found some pretty good stuff in the past while dumpster diving. Nothing this good.
Federal agents discovered a dumpster filled with almost 250 working rifles and shotguns in Oklahoma, and allege that a man was given 2 free shotguns to hang on his wall (yahoo.com)
Guess the FFL wanted the ATF to dispose of them. Their nonworking, why waste time and money on them. Why not in the scrap bucket instead of the dumpster.

Considering that I have absolutely NO training in balloon spying and probably never will - I have come to the conclusion that the "Chinese weather/spy balloon" cannot be as thought. We (Americans) and most of the rest of the world have an imaginary border in the sky called THIS IS OUR AIRSPACE and no one is allowed in it except without the US's permission.
So this brings me to the reality that this whole story is a ONCE UPON A TIME story put out as either a cover story or a hoax. We protect our airspace. This whole thing is fake.
But what do I know.
