i get them all the time in the stillwater and gmr but i have had issues keeping them alive. And when i do they absolutely scream my clicker because of how active they are. But i have caught nice flatties when i cut them up in large sections. Good luck

Thanks guys. I was just curious cuz it was a perfect live bait size, but I noticed it smelled kinda like a shad or drum so I didnt know how well they stayed alive. Ive been castnetting all kinds of different rough fish out of the licking this year. Its been neat. 4 different kinds of suckers, quillbacks, carp, shad

Quillback's do work pretty good, especially larger ones. I had gotten a nice big quillback last year in the cast net and within 5 minutes of hooking him on, the clicker was screaming and the reward was a nice 24 lb flathead.

It's not the Licking River. It enters the Ohio between Covington and Newport. It doesn't flow out by Hebron, KY. Dumb question, are you sure it's Hebron?
:time-out:Chris, this particular river is in Ohio and flows through Licking county, hence the Licking river. Funny how many place names are the same through out the country. lol :smile1:

Too funny! Man, I read that post and thought "Damn, does the river branch off somewhere that I don't know about and that's not on any maps?"

Being in NKY, I automatically thought about the river in KY and Hebron, KY.
Lol...I aint that hard up to have to drive all the way to KY to castnet suckers. Not yet at least:bulgy-eyes:

I have never used them live but I have heard of friends having decent luck with them alive. I catch a lot of channels on them when I cut them up. I used one this past winter and caught a lot of nice channels on them. They did not want the frozen shad...they wanted the fresh meat and the quillback is what I had....haha I tend to get at least 1 everytime I go for shad. You will usually find them on the shallow mud banks and flats.
