I think you will find most people boat fishing use 7' rods casting is not a big thing. i use 7' M/H 8' seems to be to long with moving around in the boat.

7' is pretty much the standard. I like 6'6 too.

Make sure to match up the type of rod with the type of fishing you do and the type of fish you're trying to catch.

As the term goes - don't bring a butterknife to a gun fight....but the reverse is also true. There have been times I've brought a gun to a butterknife fight.

7 foot works great. i have been known to use a 8-10 footer on occasion when the fish are really p''' in me off lol

I use 6 1/2 and 7 ft poles.. Any longer is too awkward in the boat..

    I would use a 6' or 6 1/2 for boat fishing.

Most of my rods are in the 7 foot range.

Longer rods can be handy for controlling drifts and making longer casts, but the extra length can get in the way in a boat.

I agree 100%.I have rods that run from 20 inches to 20 feet that are great for special types of and places to fish.A 7 foot rod would have handled 99.9% of all of my boat fishing in my 50+ years of fishing. We use to buy 20 foot imported "Calcutta Poles" for Sheapshead fishing around the rock jetties. We now have 20 foot collapsible poles with reel seats, line guides and tips to replace them.I love you brothers and sisters.peewee

I agree with the others, 7 ft should work good.
