Question on Yellow crook-neck Squash

    I bought my plants up town, and they all-ready had blooms on them when I set them out. Well, now they are just loaded with new Squash, and My vines, are the squash do not seem to be growing. it seems to me that with so much fruit the vines can't grow. what do you think ? HELP

    i would cut back on the phospurous and increase the nitrogen, this will give it a growth spurt, make it bushy and green. back off w/ the fertilizer closer to harvest. nothing but water till then.

    Yellow Crook Neck are a bush variety,,, they can not vine,,, they just load up with squash in a 3-4 foot circle.

    If you want the plants to grow a bit,Just pinch off any blooms and squash that are there . It will regenerate and in the mean time send the energy to plant growth. I have found that yellow squash tends to start small and get bigger [plant] as the season progresses. Just pick em as they come and pour the miracle grow and water to em.:wink:
