Hey guys and gals, Im new here and got a question that maybe yall can help with. What can i expect from my setup, Ive got a 7 foot Berkley Lighting rod, a Abu Garcia 6000 with 30# spirder wire (braided). I fish the Mississippi River from New Madrid to Caurthersvillie. Is Mr. Big if I get lucky enough going to have his way with me or is my guns big enough too go to this fight.

    Thanks yall
    David:big_smile:

i've caught 20 + lb cat on 8 and 12lb line, know your drag and play the fish. as long as they don't just freight train you you'll be fine.

Don't expect to stop a big fish from heading into cover. If were you fish is relatively clear of obstructions, your rig will be fine.

IF bank fishing one may need to cast up to 5 oz sinkers along with Big Baits. What would the "Lure Weight" rating be on that rod?? IF fishing heavy cover or "Snag City" 50# test is not overkill.

It was a new game when I started bank fishing the big kitties.

on a big river like that I would use heavyier line and stiffer pole. You must stop them from hitting the running water or getting into snags. You just cant play with your drag on big fish if there is cover or a good current
