Question On Cleaning Reels

    Does anyone know a way to get those dang shad scales off my reels?

    Things are like armor plating .....

    finger nails and one scale at a time. Is the best way I've found without taking off the finish.

    I don't know if this tip works for shad scales, but up this way, we get reels caked with roe and borax, which destroys the dye in the anodizing on the sideplates. The bonus of stale roe is the smell, which will gag a maggot.

    Try spraying the reel with that cooking spray called "Pam". It's a pretty good barrier, and may save you some work. When done fishing, a spritz with sweet water on the dock will hopefully swish off the crud.
